Fairfax County police
say reports, concerns
rose in wake of scandal.
THE FALLOUT FROM the Penn State child sex abuse scandal - arrests, firings and the disgrace of a sports icon - has also promoted a heightened awareness of child sexual abuse. Since the scandal broke in November, national child abuse and neglect hotlines have reported steep spikes in calls from parents, educators and victims asking questions and seeking help. Read more...

McKay Hosts Open House
 SUPERVISOR JEFF McKAY and his Lee District staff hosted about 200 people at the annual open house on Saturday, Jan. 21 at the Franconia Government Center. "I always look forward to this open house," McKay said. "It’s a great opportunity to talk to Lee District folks and hear what’s on their mind." Dragon Dance
At West Springfield
 ON SUNDAY, JAN. 22, the parents, students and educators of Wei Hwa Chinese School celebrated their opening at West Springfield High School. The school moves from its previous location at Northern Virginia Community College Annandale Campus. With more than 270 students, the school offers a variety of mandarin language classes and cultural classes for students, including new conversational classes for adults in the community. Read more...
